In typical fashion, once again many believe the Arizona Cardinals will trade up to get their franchise quarterback

Every year, some predict the Arizona Cardinals will finally make that splash.  They will finally make a trade to move up to get their next franchise quarterback.

Yet every year it doesn’t happen.  Either it turns out they were never interested in doing so or like in the case last year, they didn’t pull the trigger because it was too late to do anything when the Houston Texans jumped up ahead to take Deshaun Watson.

Once again, stories are coming out that people believe the Cardinals are preparing to try and move up.  We’ll see.  Don’t hold your breath.

Is it possible the Cardinals move into the top 10 to get a guy they really want?  Absolutely.  Is it likely?  Not at all.

There have also been reports the Cardinals may look to trade down.  I don’t necessarily buy that either, although they did do that a few years ago and snagged Deone Bucannon.

At 15, it is a tricky spot.  It isn’t high enough to get one of the top five quarterbacks in the draft but it isn’t low enough to try and trade out of either.  The Cardinals do have a number of needs.

The first round is usually about getting the best player.  However when you are a team like the Cardinals who eventually are going to need a new number one quarterback and a new number one receiver, it is going to be hard to pass the need in favor of the best available player.

I just can’t see what the Cardinals could possibly offer that would get them into the top 10.  They’d almost certainly have to give up multiple picks in this draft and likely in 2019 as well.

Next: Options plentiful for the Arizona Cardinals

Anything can happen.  No one will know what the Cardinals will do, even the Cardinals themselves, until draft night in two weeks.
