Lost in the middle of the schedule release and draft, the Arizona Cardinals found themselves a cornerback

Welcome Marcus Williams.  The former Houston Texans and New York Jets cornerback has landed with the Arizona Cardinals.  He will most certainly be in the mix for the starting spot opposite Patrick Peterson.

At this point in free agency, there may not be a better choice available.  Williams played in 10 games last season for the Texans.  He had one interception and four passes defensed.

His biggest season was his second season with the Jets, the team that drafted him in 2014.  He played in 13 games that season, grabbing six interceptions.

Over his career, Williams has 27 passes defensed and 10 interceptions.  He also has two forced fumbles.

He started with the Jets in 2017 before being released in October after playing in five games with them.  He was quickly grabbed by the Texans to play out the season.

His lone interception last season?  That of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.  Certainly he already has a gold star next to his name in our book just for that.

Williams won’t come in and just be handed the job though.  There is a reason the Jets gave up on him farily quickly and a reason the Texans didn’t re-sign him.

However he appears to be a step up from the likes of Justin Bethel, at least from a defensive standpoint.  Is he a better option than Tramon Williams?  We’ll see.

Tramon Williams played well for the Cardinals last season and some aren’t very happy that the Cardinals chose not to re-sign him.  It is the beginning of a new era in Arizona however, so we should let this process play out.

Williams holds a couple of nice records in college from his days at North Dakota State.  He is their all-time leader in interceptions with 21 and he is also the all-time FCS leader in returns for touchdowns with seven.  I say we definitely give this guy a chance.
