We are now less than 24 hours until the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft begins and the Arizona Cardinals war room is activated

So no matter who you believe out there in who the Arizona Cardinals will draft or what their plans are, this much is true, the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft is bound to bring surprises.  The draft starts at 5 p.m. Arizona time on Thursday.

As of right now, the Cardinals still have the 15th pick of the first round.  I’ve seen everything from moving up to trading down to staying put.  One of those things in that statement is true.

What do the Cardinals do though?  Do they go after their guy, no matter who he is?  It’s a tough slope to sled.  No matter what they do, someone will like it, someone will hate it.

The Cardinals aren’t trying to win popularity contests here.  They are trying to field a winning team. Big names will go early without guarantee of success.  Lesser names will go late and have a lot of success.  It always happens.

The trick is to find balance.  The Cardinals need to dig in and find balance between offense and defense.  Offensive needs are at quarterback, offensive line, receiver, and tight end. Defensive needs are cornerback, linebacker, and safety.

The first round is usually about getting the best guy available no matter.  Usually I agree with that notion.  If the quarterback they love for the future is there, they have to take him.  Same can be said about receiver, unless their quarterback is still there.

I’m through with the mocking.  It’s time for the real thing.  Whatever the Cardinals do, let’s hope it doesn’t leave us shaking our heads.  Even if it does, we can’t control it.  All we can do is support it.

Next: Arizona Cardinals could land a UCLA quarterback

However, there will still be time to complain if need be.  That’s what makes it fun.  Let’s hope there are lot more cheers than jeers Thursday night.
