The Arizona Cardinals first round pick has the luxury of being mentored and waiting for his chance to play

The moment the Arizona Cardinals selected UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen with the 10th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, many knew it was a great selection.  Despite the reports that have arisen this week that Rosen wasn’t the Cardinals first choice doesn’t change the fact Rosen is already close to NFL ready.

The fact that it would be reported that Rosen was not the Cardinals first choice because a deal for Josh Allen fell through should be inconsequential.  Rosen is still closer to being ready to take the field than the other selections ahead of him.

That also doesn’t mean throw him out there if Sam Bradford and/or Mike Glennon struggle.  it means, as long as Bradford stays healthy for the next year or two, Rosen can sit and watch for the most part.

Sure, Rosen will get plenty of preseason snaps but that should be the extent of it.  Of course that is easier said than done with Bradford’s injury history.

If Bradford goes down, as much as it pains to say this, Glennon should be the guy as long as he is healthy.  Now, if the team is out of it in December with no chance of advancing to the playoffs, then maybe there is a consideration to bring Rosen in for some regular season action.

However that is a huge maybe and it is many months down the road.  For now, Rosen just need to take his time learning the new offense and learning how to read NFL defenses.

When Rosen said he knew the situation and would do whatever the Cardinals wanted him to, let’s hope he meant it.  He also said it could be a different story if we are five or six years down the road.  That is understandable.

People predicting that Rosen will be starting by game three are ridiculous.  The only way that is happening is if Bradford and Glennon are injured.  For now, let’s not rush the kid.  He is now the franchise quarterback.
