After David Johnson, the Arizona Cardinals have quite the competition lining up behind him in 2018

No one on the depth chart after Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson screams for attention.  None of them are stars but maybe one day they could be.

Right now, the depth chart in the running back room likely says Johnson, then Elijhaa Penny, D.J. Foster, T.J. Logan, Chase Edmonds.  Don’t expect it to end like that once the final 53-man roster is announced in September.

Penny right now has the inside track to the number two spot.  However, keep an eye on Edmonds. Some are expecting great things out of him.

Foster could be the odd man out in the rotation.  Logan is coming off of the same injury Johnson had.  Logan’s occurred in the first preseason game last August.

He is likely to challenge for a kickoff returning spot, so don’t look for him to go anywhere.  That could leave Foster on the outside looking in when all is said and done.

Foster can help in the passing game as well but with the addition of fullbacks to the roster, maybe the Cardinals only end up keeping four backs on the final roster?  If they were to keep all five, then no reason to believe Foster would go anywhere.

There aren’t really any better options on the market right now.  Johnson is going to handle the bulk of the load but it could be a regular three or four man rotation, at least in the beginning.

However it plays out in the end, getting there should be a lot of fun to watch.  Anyone of the four backs after Johnson have the ability to get the job done if given the opportunity.

In the end, look for it to be Johnson, Edmonds, Penny, Logan, Foster.  That of course is if the team doesn’t go out on the open market to replace one of them.
