Arizona Cardinals: Predicting the tight ends
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals have the potential to have one of the better tight end groups in the NFL
The offensive scheme certainly is changing with coordinator Mike McCoy at the helm for the Arizona Cardinals. Just how much the tight end will be used remains to be seen.
However the first two tight ends on the depth chart should be Jermaine Gresham and Ricky Seals-Jones. After that it is anyone’s guess how it will play out.
Gresham, who has made positive headlines off the field this offseason, is expected to produce once again on the field. The Cardinals like him and yet despite the up and down production he has had over the first three seasons in Arizona, he can still be a force.
His main competition for the number one spot is second-year player Seals-Jones. He came on late last season and had a couple of very good games.
With the addition of fullbacks this season on the roster, it is hard to say at this point if that will affect how many tight ends will make the final 53-man roster. Tight end would be the obvious choice to reduce the depth chart.
Outside of Gresham and Seals-Jones, the Cardinals do have talent. They have seven tight ends on the current roster.
However only Gabe Holmes has more than one year of NFL experience outside of Gresham and Seals-Jones. Of the seven tight ends on roster, two of them are rookies and two have one year of experience.
So who will take shape as backups to the top two tight ends? Right now it is a very tough call. Question is, will they keep just three, four, or maybe five tight ends?
