After leaving without a contract the first time around, the Arizona Cardinals finally got Tre Boston to sign on the dotted line

When cornerback Tre Boston came in for a visit earlier in the offseason, it was thought he wouldn’t leave without a contract from the Arizona Cardinals.  Turns out he did but now he is back with a new contract in hand and ready for training camp.

He came in for a visit during the last week of May and first week of June.  He left Arizona without signing a contract.  It had sounded like he was someone the Cardinals wanted.

Nothing happened after that point, although a cryptic tweet by Boston on June 4th seem to suggest he got a low ball offer from the Cardinals and wasn’t happy.  He was coming off a good season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The fact was the Cardinals didn’t have to do much at that point with just one round of OTA’s and minicamp left before taking off until camp this week.  On Wednesday morning, they brought in defensive back Mike Mitchell but went with Boston in the afternoon instead.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Mitchell, who recently played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and also played for Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks with the Carolina Panthers when Wilks was the defensive coordinator, would be taking a physical.  But per arizonasports.com’s John Gambadoro, the Cardinals wanted Mitchell all along.

It makes sense.  Boston has had the better recent history on the field.  The only question is, were the Cardinals just bringing in Mitchell to lure Boston in or were they legitimately interested in Mitchell as well?

We won’t likely ever find out the real answer.  However it does save the Cardinals having yet another former Steelers player on the roster.

Boston also has played for Wilks.  He was drafted by the Panthers in 2014 and played for Wilks from 2014 until 2016.
