The signing of Nordly “Cap” Capi is an acquisition that will surely be well-received by many fans of the Arizona Cardinals

Quite a few fans of the Arizona Cardinals were positive that the club had made a severe mistake last September. The front office’s decision to release an individual who had basically transformed himself into a cult hero was not well-received.

But now, those who questioned that move can now feel vindicated. The Cardinals have apparently changed their mind about that popular player. Nordly “Cap” Capi is back.

The Cards announced that they have reached an agreement on a one-year deal with a defensive end who quite possibly has the most unusual name in the NFL. Capi got himself noticed in a big way last summer. His outstanding performance during the preseason had many convinced that he was a lock to make the squad’s 53-man roster for 2017.

Obviously, general manager Steve Keim and his cronies didn’t agree. Capi was sent packing on September 2nd. The former undrafted free agent of the Jacksonville Jaguars (2015) didn’t stay unemployed for long, however.

Two days after being cut by Arizona, Capi was signed to the New York Giants’ practice squad. The 6’3″, 249 pounder spent time on the G-men’s active roster before suffering a hamstring injury. After spending some time on injured reserve, Capi was handed his walking papers from the Giants on November 10th.

The Buffalo Bills turned out to be the journeyman’s next destination. Capi once again started on the practice squad before being promoted to the Bills’ varsity team in early December. In eight appearances during the ’17 campaign (four with New York, four with Buffalo) the veteran tallied seven tackles and one quarterback sack.

Capi is the most recent offseason addition to the Cardinals’ defensive end room. Others who have come to the nest in 2018 include Benson Mayowa, Arthur Moats and Jacquies Smith.

The Cards are set at the starting spots with Chandler Jones and Markus Golden. There is a chance for the backups to see significant action, however. Golden is recovering from the torn ACL that he suffered last October, and his status for the beginning of the upcoming schedule is uncertain.

Capi has gotten a second opportunity with Arizona. There are many people who feel that it’s well-deserved. Perhaps he shouldn’t have gone anywhere in the first place.
