Preseason week one notes

Rough starts:

Last weeks game was not very friendly to backup center Daniel Munyer nor cornerback Brandon Williams.  Both are going to have to step it up on Friday if either want to hang around much longer.

Also the Cardinals need to see better results from the second unit, especially the offensive line.  Aside from Munyer’s issues snapping the ball, they just didn’t block for the backup quarterbacks very well.

Veterans in mid-season form:

It’s safe to say running back David Johnson is all the way back.  He carried the ball twice for 28-yards last Saturday and looked impressive doing it.  There is no need to give him much more than that again against the Saints.

The first unit offensive line, guys like guard Mike Iupati and D.J. Humphries played well.  That will be very important to the Cardinals success this season.  If they stay healthy and a renewed focus on the running game, it could be a big season.

Want to see more of:

Receiver Christian Kirk almost broke his first punt return for a touchdown.  If not for tripping himself, it would have happened.

Passing game.  Certainly the running game will be the focus this season but all of the quarterbacks need to get their timing down with their receivers.  We saw a couple of receivers struggle to bring balls down that will definitely need to be caught in the regular season.
