The Arizona Cardinals finished off the preseason with little noise and still decisions to be made

Probably the only sure thing now after the Arizona Cardinals loss to the Denver Broncos in the preseason finale Thursday night is that we know who the third quarterback will be.  Mike Glennon won that job over Chad Kanoff.

Glennon, who has been the subject of trade rumors this week, played in the first half on Thursday night.  He went 8-10 for 69-yards and a touchdown.

The touchdown was scored by another bubble player, receiver Greg Little.  However for Little, it may be too little too late.

One receiver that did step up and could snag a spot is Trent Sherfield.  He could push someone like J.J. Nelson out of a spot.  We’ll see though.

As for Kanoff, he didn’t play particularly well.  He went just 3-11 for 42-yards, no touchdowns.  At this point he may not even be a practice squad player, at least not in Arizona.

After the Cardinals got up 7-0 in the first half, they pretty much just put the game on cruise control.  Thursday night wasn’t about the score but about surviving the preseason and guys getting a chance to showcase themselves for the Cardinals and the NFL for possible regular season spots.

Running backs Darius Victor, Sherman Badie, and Elijhaa Penny were the ones to carry the ball.  They carried a total of 21 times for 84-yards.  Not much to write home about there.

The defense got their 17th takeaway of the preseason, tying the 2000 Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the most in a single preseason.  Hopefully some of that carries over to the regular season.

For now, we wait.  Teams have until 1:00 p.m. Arizona time on Saturday to make their cuts down to 53-players.  Even after then, some wheeling and dealing will be done.

Glennon though appears to have nailed the third spot down, if they do decide to keep three quarterbacks.  It should be a safe bet that will happen however.  Let’s see how it plays out.
