A new era with Steve Wilks at the helm for the Arizona Cardinals may take more getting used to
The cuts are in. Some definite surprises and some not so much on Saturday. We will leave head coach Steve Wilks to his job and for now believe he knows what he is doing but what is he doing?
The Cardinals kept guys like Brandon Williams at corner and cut receivers Greg Little and Brice Butler but kept J.J. Nelson. We already talked about the head scratcher at kicker earlier in the day.
Let’s take a look at the Cardinals roster and how the 53-players shape up…for now. This is likely to be tweaked over the coming days.
Offense
Quarterback (3): Sam Bradford, Josh Rosen, Mike Glennon. The Cardinals cut Chad Kanoff. This was to be expected after Thursday night’s loss to the Denver Broncos.
Running back (3): David Johnson, Chase Edmonds, T.J. Logan. No surprises here. Sherman Badie and Darius Victor were cut.
Receiver (5): Larry Fitzgerald, Chad Williams, Christian Kirk, J.J. Nelson, Trent Sherfield. This means Little, Butler, Carlton Agudosi, C.J Duncan, Jalen Tolliver, and Corey Wills were cut.
Fullback (1): Derrick Coleman. Elijhaa Penny was cut, which is a bit of a surprise as well. I thought he played well enough to earn a spot on the roster.
Tight end (3): Jermaine Gresham, Ricky Seals-Jones, Gabe Holmes. Gresham was removed from the PUP list and becomes the number one. The Cardinals cut Alec Bloom, Bryce Williams, and Andrew Vollert.
Offensive line (10): Mason Cole, Evan Boehm, Mike Iupati, Andre Smith, Will Holden, Jason Pugh, Daniel Munyer, D.J. Humphries, John Wetzel, Korey Cunningham. This I believe they got right. They have backups at every position. Cut were Josh Allen, Vinston Painter, Greg Pyke, Will House, and Brant Weiss.
