Arizona Cardinals running backs could collectively lead NFL
By Scott Allen
David Johnson
Welcome back to him. After getting injured in the first game of the season in 2017 at the Detroit Lions, he returns and looks very good.
He played in only the first couple of preseason games but that’s all we needed to see. Johnson looked like his old self.
He is also very confident in himself. His goals are to run for 2,000-yards and receive for another 1,000-yards. Those are lofty goals but attainable if the Cardinals are able to sustain drives and his offensive line helps him.
Johnson lead the NFL with 20 touchdowns overall in 2016. He had 16 of those on the ground and four in the air. He also lead all NFL running backs with 80 receptions.
It would be fun to see him get back to that. I don’t think he needs to get to 2,000/1,000 for the Cardinals to be successful.
If he does though, that is going to likely mean the Cardinals are in the playoff hunt. Let’s just hope his contract situation doesn’t become a distraction during the season.
