The Arizona Cardinals signing of a free agent receiver on Monday a sign team hasn’t given up

When we learned that the Arizona Cardinals signed free agent receiver Kendall Wright on Monday, it wasn’t Earth-shattering news.  What it was though was a sign this team hasn’t given up the good fight yet.

Wright, who was cut by the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason, played six years for the Tennessee Titans and then last season with the Chicago Bears.  Oh, and the Cardinals play the Vikings this Sunday in Minneapolis.

Wright said it isn’t that big of a deal playing against the team that cut him in the preseason.  Who knows if he’ll even have a chance to play on Sunday?  Getting signed early in the week certainly gives him a shot.

The Cardinals have struggled in the passing game so far over the first five weeks of the season.  Despite a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Rosen to receiver Christian Kirk on Sunday on the Cardinals first offensive play of the game, once again they failed to establish any kind of decent passing attack in their victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

There were some more dropped passes, something that has plagued the Cardinals over the first five weeks as well.  Not one receiver has been immune, not even Larry Fitzgerald.

The Cardinals had to eventually sign someone.  There are other free agents out there, so this doesn’t feel like a forced move to sign someone for the sake of signing someone.

Wright has experience.  His best season came in 2013 when he caught 94 passes for 1,079-yards.  He has 339 receptions for 3,858-yards and 19 touchdowns in his career.

What was interesting was that the addition of Wright did not mean the end for another receiver, at least not yet.  The Cardinals parted ways with cornerback Deatrick Nichols.  He had one tackle on Sunday against the 49ers.
