Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson releases statement about his trade request

In not so many words, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson said he wants to remain with the team and is focusing on the game against the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday.  Earlier in the week it was reported he had demanded a trade.

The trade request was news to coach Steve Wilks.  Apparently though Peterson had a chat with team president Michael Bidwill.  Bidwill pledged the organization wants to win.

Peterson didn’t exactly come out and say he never requested a trade in his statement but did in a round about way say his plan would be to fulfill his contract.  Later on, he answered some reporter questions that seem to hint in fact he did make a trade request.

He was point blank asked why he asked for a trade and he answered that he was frustrated, sick of losing.  You can’t blame the guy for wanting to win.  You just can’t like the way that this became an early week distraction for the team.

Peterson said he wants to be part of the solution, not the problem.  Then at this point moving forward he needs to just do his thing on the field like he always does.

The interesting thing about the meeting with Bidwill was that apparently Wilks nor Steve Keim, general manager for the Cardinals, were present in the meeting.  It makes you wonder certainly.

For now, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers fans can forget the dream of landing him.  It isn’t going to happen, at least not in the next six days prior to the trade deadline.

It is alright to be frustrated but there are better ways Peterson could have dealt with this.  The news he wanted to be traded was leaked out on purpose.

Next. Cardinals: 3 with time running short. dark

In the end though it looks like Peterson will play out his contract in Arizona then see what happens.  Hopefully the Cardinals will be back to a contender by then.
