The Arizona Cardinals host the Detroit Lions on Sunday at State Farm Stadium

It’s almost as if the Detroit Lions are an NFC West team.  It seems like the Arizona Cardinals play them every year.

Well looking back at history, it will show the Lions have played the Cardinals a total of eight times since the Cardinals moved out to Glendale.  This will be the ninth game with the seventh at State Farm Stadium.

The NFC West plays the entire NFC North every three years on a rotational basis.  The two teams though have run similar course, thus finishing in the same position in their respective divisions often.

The Cardinals will host the Lions at 2:25 pm on FOX on Sunday.  For a change they will have a new announcing team on the call.  Tim Brando and Brady Quinn have drawn the assignment for FOX on Sunday.

The game is scheduled to be shown in Arizona and Michigan only.  The Cardinals are coming off a 20-17 victory at Green Bay last week.  The Lions lost to the Los Angeles Rams at home 30-16 last Sunday.

The Cardinals are hurting at 3-9.  They sent three players to the injured reserve this week, including two offensive linemen.  They lost Mike Iupati and D.J. Humphries for the season.  They also lost receiver Christian Kirk to a broken foot.

Quarterback Josh Rosen could once again be running for his life on Sunday.  Things with the Lions haven’t been much better.  They sit just one game better than the Cardinals in the NFC standings at 4-8.

They looked like a force early in the season with a huge win over the New England Patriots.  However they are also the same team that lost big at home to the New York Jets on opening weekend.

At this point, both teams would just like to get through the rest of the season and start over.  Both preferably would like to do that without losing any more players.

Since the Cardinals are home, the edge should go to them.  The Lions don’t usually play well in Arizona, at least at State Farm Stadium.

Next. Time for Cardinals to admit mistakes. dark

The Lions have lost eight in a row in Arizona.  Their last win was 21-14 in 1993 at Sun Devil Stadium.  Cardinals pull this one out 23-17
