The Arizona Cardinals may have had a disappointing 2018 but now is chance to start building for 2019

It wasn’t supposed to be a re-building year for the Arizona Cardinals and for the most part it wasn’t.  It was a case of bad coaching, bad quarterback play, and lots of injury.

There is also the inconsistent effort put forth by the Cardinals week to week.  One week against the Los Angeles Chargers they look lethargic for the last three quarters.  The next week they put forth a great effort from start to finish in victory at Green Bay.

Then they come out with a snoozer against the Detroit Lions last Sunday at home, where the Cardinals are now 1-6.  This week they head back on the road to face the Atlanta Falcons.

The Cardinals play calling against the Lions was probably the worst it has been since Byron Leftwich took over for Mike McCoy in October.  Does he get consideration to continue in the roll in 2018.  The jury is still out.

Many on Sunday were calling for the Cardinals to hire John Defilippo, the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings.  Make that former offensive coordinator as Defilippo was fired on Tuesday after a poor offensive performance by the Vikings in their 21-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.

Now, would the Cardinals even look at him?  He’s really only had once really decent coaching stop and that was with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cardinals will get all a lot of talent back in 2019 coming off injury.  Quarterback Josh Rosen will be one year smarter on NFL defenses.  Rosen was never expected to play this season but in reality it may have been a blessing in disguise to get a lot of action this season, otherwise he would in essence be a rookie on the field in 2019.

There will be a lot of changes as personnel on and off the field are evaluated.  However there will be a number of the same young players who have contributed greatly this season such as receiver Christian Kirk, center Mason Cole, and now the emergence of offensive lineman Korey Cunningham.

Next. Better coaching can help Cardinals QB. dark

The Cardinals could end up with a much more competitive season next year on the field.  Now the right moves need to be made between now and May when OTA’s begin.
