4. Gardeck punt block
The Cardinals special teams actually had a decent season. Kicking was alright, punting was great. The return game was better than it had been in recent past.
The best overall play though came in week 17 at the Seattle Seahawks. It was saved for linebacker Dennis Gardeck.
Gardeck, who had a great preseason and was a nice surprise addition to the 53-man roster coming into the regular season, really hadn’t made much noise. He reminded everyone where he was as the season was closing out.
The second half punt block kept the Cardinals in the game and eventually lead to a game-tying field goal by Gonzalez with 1:55 remaining. Unfortunately the defense allowed quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seahawks to march down the field for a Sebastian Janikowski game-winning field goal.
Special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers kept his job with new head coach Kliff Kingsbury‘s staff after head coach Steve Wilks was fired. Hopefully there will be more plays like this in 2019.
