Acquiring a wide receiver like Antonio Brown would likely be enough to propel the Arizona Cardinals back into the playoffs
Don’t look now, but the Arizona Cardinals have some ammunition this offseason. For the first time in awhile, the club’s front office has an ample amount of salary-cap room to work with. In addition, the Cardinals also own the first pick in every round of this year’s draft, and are also expected to be awarded a couple of compensatory selections as well.
That kind of firepower puts possibilities on the table, options that could make the Cardinals playoff contenders again. Rumor has it that even seven-time Pro Bowler Antonio Brown could be in play for the franchise. In fact, “Pro Football Talk” is reporting that Arizona is actually the odds-on favorite to land the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver.
Bringing Brown to the desert would be a tremendous feat for Cardinals management. General manager Steve Keim is out to prove that the two “NFL Executive of the Year” awards he won a few years back were not a fluke. Making the talented Brown a Cardinal would go a long way in proving that the accolades were well-deserved.
The numbers that Brown has amassed since he joined the Steelers in 2010 are downright amazing. The 30-year old has racked up 837 receptions, 11,207 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns during his nine campaigns in the league. The former sixth-round pick is fresh off of another excellent season, in which he caught 104 passes for 1,297 yards and a career-high 15 scores.
A trade for Brown would be addressing a position of need. Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk are the only Arizona wideouts who are certain to be back in 2019. New head coach Kliff Kingsbury will be implementing a pass-heavy offense, so capable receivers are a necessity.
The 5’10, 181 pounder will have no shortage of suitors for his services. The Cards may need to get into a bidding war to obtain the veteran. Brown’s impressive resume is proof that he’ll be well worth the trouble.
