The defensive end told Sirius XM Radio this week he believes there is still a chance to return to the Arizona Cardinals in 2019

Regardless if the Arizona Cardinals are rumored to be looking for an edge rusher in the 2019 NFL Draft, defensive end Markus Golden says Arizona is still a place he could end up this upcoming season.  Some fans seem to have moved on from him already though.

From here, the sounds of Golden coming back is music to the ears.  Look, we all know his 2018 season was not the kind of bounce back year many expected after tearing his ACL early on in the 2017 season.

Let’s not forget in 2016, the season before his injury, he had 12.5 sacks.  Sure he didn’t pick up a sack in 2017 but it was only because he played in four games then was lost for the season.

In 2018, he only had 2.5 sacks but he had difficulty staying healthy.  He was in and out of the lineup quite a bit early on in the season, even being inactive at times.

Whether he truly believes it or not and regardless of how much truth there is to it, it is still nice to hear that Golden’s agent is talking to the Cardinals.  That means there is likely still room for the Golden at the right price despite the possibility of adding at his position with a high draft pick.

Many fans want to discard a player if he hasn’t performed lately.  It’s all about the next guy.  While certainly understandable given Golden’s recent production, his situation does warrant another chance in my book.

If he does end up moving on, then good for him.  If he can get himself straight on health, there is no reason he can’t go back to being the fierce defender he was in 2016.  He can certainly benefit the Cardinals whether he goes back to the defensive line or even moves back to linebacker.
