Round 1, pick 10

Original selection: QB Josh Rosen

Re-draft selection: QB Josh Rosen

The Kyler Murray rumors are real. The talented Oklahoma two-sport star could very well be the Cardinals shot-caller come 2019, but that doesn’t mean the original trade up and drafting of Josh Rosen isn’t the right move.

Contrary to popular belief, trading up for Josh Rosen was one of the smartest decisions from the first day of the 2018 draft. Along with Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Josh Allen, Rosen was one of the four quarterbacks in contention to be the first pick in the draft. However, the three previously mentioned each went in the top seven, in turn, causing Rosen to fall into the Cardinals laps.

The Cardinals badly needed a franchise quarterback after Carson Palmer‘s retirement. Neither Sam Bradford or Mike Glennon were going to be those guys. After a shaky rookie year, Rosen still has the potential to be that guy. The UCLA product has sound mechanics, poise in the pocket, and a rather talented arm. Despite my want for him to take advantage of his check-downs, his decision making, and mental fortitude is ahead of the curve.

Rosen might need a better supporting cast to succeed down the line. But, he showed that he can lead a team and is certainly still a valuable quarterbacking prospect despite a poor season. Do you really think Lamar Jackson could do better in the Cardinals situation?
