Kyler Murray is now the odds-on favorite to be the top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Whether or not he’ll be on the Arizona Cardinals is still up in the air.

According to OddsShark on April 2nd, former Oklahoma quarterback and MLB first-round pick Kyler Murray is the -500 favorite (betting $500 wins $100) to be the first player selected in the 2019 NFL Draft. However, while the Arizona Cardinals own the pick, it’s anyone’s best bet as to exactly who would select him with the pick.

Stephen Campbell of OddsShark broke down the projection, saying;

"Only a few short weeks ago, Bosa was the -200 favorite with Murray coming back at +200. But since then, it’s become clear the Arizona Cardinals, who possess the top pick in the draft, have become enamored with Murray. New Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has stated his glowing opinion of the former Sooner in the past, and it looks like he’s found his quarterback of the future at No. 1.That means last year’s 10th overall selection, Josh Rosen, could be looking for a new home in 2019. With Arizona reportedly fielding offers for Rosen, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the former USC (likely ment UCLA) signal-caller dealt before the draft on April 25. Since Murray’s unprecedented move up the oddsboard, Williams’ odds have fallen from +1000 to +1800, while Allen’s have dropped from +1400 to +2000."

As many of you may know, Kyler Murray is a hot topic of debate amongst Cardinals circles. The 2018 Heisman Trophy winner took college football by storm after deciding to play for one more year after being drafted by the Oakland Athletics at pick No. 9 in the 2017 MLB draft.

In 2018, the 5-10 Murray threw for 4,364 yards and 42 touchdowns to just seven interceptions on a 69.0% completion rate. While he boasts a talented arm, his running ability is just as lethal. Although he didn’t run the 40-yard-dash at the annual combine, he was expected to be one of the fastest quarterbacks in the history of the event. In 2018 he ran for 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns on 140 attempts.

The situation has been one to monitor throughout the 2019 off-season. Whether it’s a rumor about Kingsbury’s asphyxiation with Murray or the whispers of Josh Rosen leaving town soon, just what the Arizona Cardinals will do is anyone’s best bet. However, with the recent odds being released, it’s looking more and more likely that the former Oklahoma shot-caller may be the top pick, even if the Redbirds don’t own it come draft night.
