Not much history with the Arizona Cardinals organization and the number 20

We are inching closer to the day that the Arizona Cardinals make their decision as to who they will take with the No. 1 overall draft selection. Yesterday we covered Patrick Peterson and the history of jersey No. 21.

We now stand 20 days out from Day One of the 2019 NFL draft. The history of this jersey number is quite bland for the Cardinals. 25 players have worn the number for the Cardinals franchise, and only one has been in the desert for more than three seasons. Can you guess that player?

You guessed right, Deone Bucannon. Bucannon wore the number starting in 2015, swapping from 36 to 20 after his rookie season. Bucannon had an up and down career in Arizona, showing promise early, before falling out of favor with the previous staff. Bucannon joins former Cardinals coach Bruce Arians in Tampa Bay.

Presently, recently signed corner Robert Alford has the number according to the Cardinals official website. Alford joins Arizona after being released by the Falcons earlier this offseason.

Prior to Bucannon, Jonathan Dwyer wore it for one season as did Antoine Cason. Ralph Brown and AJ Jefferson wore it from 2007 to 2011. Lamont Reid wore it for one season in 2005 and Damien Anderson wore it for three seasons with the Cardinals.

There was a five-year gap between Anderson and the next person to have worn it. In fact, nobody from 1997 to 1951 wore the jersey for more than three seasons.

Perhaps the best player to wear the jersey during that span was Mike Sensibaugh. Sensibaugh as only in Cardinal red for three seasons, spending the 1976, 1977, and 1978 seasons with the franchise. He recorded seven interceptions in two seasons before his third and final season in the NFL was shortened by injury.

The history of No. 20 is short and not exciting. Deone Bucannon goes down as the best Cardinal to wear the jersey. Maybe soon we will have someone who can produce in the jersey.

Next. 3 AAF played the Cardinals should call. dark

We will continue our countdown as we count down the days to the Draft. So stick with Raising Zona as get nearer.
