6. Kevin White
NFL career stats: 5 starts, 25 receptions, 285 yards, 0 touchdowns, 52.1% catch rate
If these rankings were based on NFL success alone, Kevin White would be closer to the bottom than the top. After all, the West Virginia prodcut was once a No. 7 overall selection and hasn’t yet scored a touchdown since being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2015.
White’s lack of success isn’t due solely to his on-field play. Instead, it’s because of an extensive history of injuries. He’s had a stress fracture in his shin, a left leg break, and a broken shoulder in the span of four seasons. But, he’s just 26 years old and was once considered to be one of the best receiving prospects to enter the NFL in recent memory.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and 216-pounds, White has an ideal frame to play on the outside with athleticism to boot. At the combine, the receiver recorded a 4.35 second 40-yard-dash, 36.5-inch vertical, 125-inch broad jump, 23 bench press reps, and a 6.92-second three-cone-drill. All are outstanding numbers that matched his remarkable two-year West Virginia tenure.
In Dana Holgerson’s Air Raid, White ran a full route-tree and showed his impressive catch radius. In 2014, he recorded 109 receptions for 1,447 yards and ten touchdowns. That season earned him a DeAndre Hopkins pro-comparison from Lance Zierlein.
Despite being such an exciting prospect, White has found himself fighting for a roster spot on the Cardinals. Though he was healthy last year, he didn’t do much. If he can continue his clean bill of health trend and contribute, White may be the reclamation project that Cardinals wished for when they signed him.
