Vs. Jared Goff
Why we want to see it: Jared Goff and the Rams have ruled the NFC West for the past two seasons. Their offensive dominance stemmed a Super Bowl birth, and though they failed to score a touchdown in the big game, it’s not expected to end anytime soon. Cue Kyler Murray, the challenger to the thrown that Goff owns.
Goff has his faults, but he’s a franchise quarterback through-and-through. The Cardinals have to face that every year for the foreseeable future, but they won’t be without their own talented shot-caller. Because the two are rival teams with young quarterbacks at the helm, both should be a fixture in an exciting future in the desert and NFC West.
When it’ll happen: Like the Seahawks, the Cardinals face the Rams twice a season. But in 2019, their matchups will be closer to the end of the season. The Redbirds will host Goff during week 11 on December 1st and will finish their regular season in Los Angeles in a week 17, December 29th dual.
Goff is contractually locked in through 2020, but he’s expected to get extended far past that date. Murray is on his rookie contract with a fifth-year option, meaning the Cardinals have him through 2023. This is a rivalry we expect to develop and flourish through the next generation of football.
Honorable mentions: Jimmy Garoppolo, Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Andrew Luck. Each of these quarterbacks is intriguing, but outside of Garoppolo, we don’t expect many thrilling rivalries anytime soon.
