Vs. Patrick Mahomes
Why we want to see it: Kyler Murray never faced Patrick Mahomes in college, but they share a very similar bond. Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s most significant accomplishment as a quarterback whisperer may very well be Mahomes. Now, two years after Mahomes left Texas Tech, Kingsbury is hoping to replicate his Mahomes success with Murray in Arizona.
Before winning MVP in just his second season as a pro, Mahomes was breaking records left and right in Kingsbury’s Red Raiders offense. In his last two years in Lubbock, Mahomes threw for 9,705 yards and 77 touchdowns on a 64.6 completion rate. Though he’s obviously extremely talented, his gaudy stats are in large part due to Kingsbury’s Air Raid.
When it’ll happen: Unfortunately, we may have to wait a while for this one. Both teams are in opposite conferences and played each other just last year. Unless both quarterbacks meet each other in the Super Bowl, we won’t see the matchup this year.
The Cardinals are set to face the Chiefs’ AFC West division in 2022. Both Murray and Mahomes are expected to be locked into their teams future, and so is their offensive-minded head coaches Andy Reid and Kingsbury. If last year’s Chiefs team tells us anything, it should be a back-and-forth defensive struggle.
