Arizona Cardinals: The overall impact of using the first pick on Kyler Murray

With the first pick in this years, NFL draft the Arizona Cardinals went with a selection that will impact the organization in more ways than just on the field.

Drafting a quarterback in the first round is a big decision for an NFL team, such as the Arizona Cardinals, to make and one that can shift their organization. We have seen it work with guys like Carson Wentz and Patrick Mahomes in recent years.

We have also seen turmoil like Jamarcus Russell and Jameis Winston where the pick didn’t or has yet turn out the way the organization would have liked. Drafting a quarterback first overall is an even bigger decision and we will see how it goes for the Cardinals who took Heisman winning quarterback Kyler Murray with the first overall pick.

With training camp upon us, we are starting to see Murray in the Cardinals colors and him throwing on Cardinals training facilities. He will be an immediate starter unlike other first-round quarterbacks and will have an immediate impact. Although this selection comes with more than the impact he will have on the field, but off the gridiron as well.

The Arizona Cardinals are not a highlighted franchise in the media among the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots who get a mega amount of media attention. Now having one of the most interesting prospects the league has ever seen before the Cardinals have now been getting a lot of attention from fans in the football world, along with media attention. The rookie quarterback will definitely impact viewing this season on Cardinals games and rise numbers in that regard tremendously.

Kyler Murray also will impact merchandise being sold is one of the most popular rookies in this years rookie class and wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the highest jersey to be sold among rookies. This will make merchandise numbers skyrocket from last year where they didn’t have many exciting names playing with David Johnson being hurt and Patrick Peterson having trade talks being discussed before resolving differences with the team.

The Cardinals didn’t just get a new quarterback, but they also got a new offensive guru to be the head man and call the plays on the offensive side of the ball in Kliff Kingsbury. Murray will help Kingsbury run the system he was so successfully used at Texas Tech with guys who he has drawn similarities to in the recent MVP Patrick Mahomes and his Oklahoma teammate Baker Mayfield. Murray will be a big impact in allowing Kingsbury to run his system effectively in his first NFL gig.

Kyler Murray impact is one that the Cardinals could be more happy to have. They are excited about their future with Kyler being the poster child of their new era.

He will impact both on and off the field for the organization and has brought a buzz to Arizona which they haven’t had since Kurt Warner took them to the Super Bowl back in 2009. We will see over this next season and years to come if he can help bring this team back to a legit contender in the NFL and keep the Arizona Cardinals relevant in the National Football League.
