Byron Murphy

Someone is very happy to be playing NFL ball in his hometown.  Murphy even said as much to the media this week.

Even though one can be happy to be where he is, he still needs to produce.  By many accounts, he is doing just that.  With the absence of Peterson over the first six weeks of the regular season, there is an open starting spot.

Murphy seems poised right now to take one of those spots.  Local media has mentioned their positive impressions of Murphy so far in practice.

Again, this probably shouldn’t come as a surprise but given the track record of a number of draft picks, this is all good news this week.  It is nice to hear a rookie succeeding on the defensive side of the ball, even if it is just practice.

Murphy has competition as well but so far so good.  Hopefully he can carry his practice performances over to the preseason games.  That is where the decision will be made whether he starts or not.
