Damiere Byrd

The receiver competition got interesting on Thursday night.  Byrd didn’t play very well but that was a trend among the Cardinals receivers.

For Byrd though the only one he might be still fighting with for one of the last spots is rookie Hakeem Butler.  Byrd has shown flashes in preseason and training camp but in such a tight competition he can’t afford any mistakes.

The good news is no receiver really seemed to separate themselves on Thursday night, so Byrd will likely have one maybe still two more weeks to get the job done.

Byrd wasn’t terrible but he was already on the bubble.  Someone like Byrd needed to take advantage of a night like this.  He failed to do so.  Hopefully we will see much better next week from him.

Byrd will have to make a couple of big plays over the next couple of weeks to push himself into the top six or seven receivers.  He may have been good at the start of camp but it will be how he finishes.
