Arizona Cardinals make a couple of surprising cuts

The Arizona Cardinals make their initial 53-man roster but expect things to change soon
The Arizona Cardinals made their roster cuts on Saturday afternoon to get down to the 53-man limit. However don’t expect to see exactly the same 53-man roster within a couple of days.
Expect the Cardinals to go after some waiver wire pickups, thus eliminating some jobs won on Saturday. For now, this is what we get.
Some surprises include the release of tight end Ricky Seals-Jones, although Jones had a big fumble in Thursday night’s loss to the Denver Broncos. Also, the Cardinals decided to keep four running backs, including local favorite D.J. Foster.
Here’s how the cuts broke down:
QB: Drew Anderson, Charles Kanoff
No real surprises here. The Cardinals could make a run at Anderson for the practice squad.
RB: Wes Hills (received an injury settlement), Dontae Strickland
Strickland could also be one of those guys to look at for a practice squad. If not in Arizona, maybe somewhere else.
WR: Pharoh Cooper, Chad Williams, A.J. Richardson, Isaac Zico
Cooper lost out to Damiere Byrd and Williams officially is done. Williams was the Cardinals third round pick in 2017.
OL: Colby Gossett, Coleman Shelton, William Sweet, Rees Odhiambo, Parker Ehinger, Patrick Lawrence, Jacob Onesorge
Here Odhiambo and Sweet received injury settlements. Odhiambo was someone initially projected to make the 53-man.
TE: Seals-Jones, Darrell Daniels, Caleb Wilson, Drew Belcher
Daniels did not have a good preseason. Wilson was a victim of the numbers game and the only draft pick to be waived. Look for him to possibly find himself on a practice squad.
DL: Pasoni Tasini, Siupeli Anau, Sterling Bailey, Bruce Hector
Hector was traded for a couple of weeks ago. However he came into camp too late to really make his presence known.
LB: Cameron Malveaux, Pita Taumoepenu, Vontarrius Dora, Dante Booker.
Taumoepenu was given an injury settlement. Dora likely was another victim of the numbers game.
CB: Brandon Williams, Nate Brooks, Deatrick Nichols
Williams was waived with an injury settlement. He had a hard time getting himself healthy enough to compete. The experiment is finally over. Brooks was a bit of a surprise.
S: Jonathan Owens, Tyler Sigler
Both had their moments in camp. Just not enough room for either.
P: Ryan Winslow
No surprise here. Andy Lee had this nailed from the moment camp opened. Winslow though was very decent in camp. He was just competing with….Andy Lee.
Expect to see a lot more movement on Sunday and Monday. The Cardinals can form their 10-man practice squad on Sunday.
