Penalties

We’ve harped on it a few times already this season.  It’s not necessarily the number of penalties but when they happen is what causes most concern.

After the Cardinals built their beautiful lead, the second quarter things started to go downhill quickly.  On Sunday, it was a little of both the number and the timeliness of the infractions.

The Cardinals committed 10 penalties for 85-yards on Sunday.  One of the big culprits Sunday was left tackle D.J. Humphries.  He had a couple of holding calls that were killers.

A false start on offensive lineman Joshua Miles on 4th and 6 normally wouldn’t be that big of a deal, right?  Well on Sunday it was a huge deal.  It took the Cardinals out of Zane Gonzalez field goal range, especially on such a dreary day weather-wise.

A Byron Murphy illegal contact call kept a Giants drive alive as they were getting close to field goal range themselves.  However two plays later Chandler Jones bailed them out with a strip sack and fumble.
