Mock drafts are beginning to pop up all over the place for the Arizona Cardinals and the rest of the National Football League

Over the next three months, there will be varying opinions on what the Arizona Cardinals should do when the 2020 NFL Draft gets underway. The club added 11 college players in 2019, but are currently armed with just six selections for this year’s three-day event. The following is just one of many mock drafts that will center around the Cards until their picks are announced in April.

Round 1(8)- Arizona has a vacancy to fill at the right tackle position, and could quite possibly have an opening at left tackle as well if D.J. Humphries isn’t retained. The University of Georgia’s Andrew Thomas would be an excellent candidate for either of those spots. The 6’5, 320 pounder was a unanimous All-American selection in ’19, and was also awarded the Jacobs Blocking Trophy for his outstanding play last season.

Round 2(40)- Despite the fact that the Cardinals drafted three wide receivers last spring, there are those who believe that another pass-catcher is needed. The University of Minnesota’s Tyler Johnson was voted First Team All-Big Ten for his performance this past fall. The 6’2, 205 pounder hauled in 86 passes for 1,318 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Golden Gophers.

Round 3(72)- The Cards defense was the league’s 32nd-ranked unit last year, and can certainly use an infusion of talent on the front line. Auburn University’s Marlon Davidson was voted First Team All-SEC for his superb production last year. The defensive end racked up 48 tackles and 6.5 sacks for the Tigers during his senior campaign.

Round 4(104)- Edge rusher Chandler Jones was spectacular once again in ’19 (19 sacks, 53 tackles), but Arizona could use another pass-rusher to line up on the opposite side of the Pro Bowler. Charlotte’s Alex Highsmith is coming off of a magnificent season for the Conference USA school. The 6’4, 242 pounder registered 15 sacks and 75 tackles in 13 contests for the 49ers last fall.

Round 5(135)- Patrick Peterson, Robert Alford and Byron Murphy are the Cardinals top three cornerbacks at the moment, but there are question marks surrounding each player. In three campaigns for the UCLA Bruins, Darnay Holmes has amassed 120 tackles, eight interceptions and 17 pass breakups. The 5’10, 198 pounder was an honorable mention All-PAC-12 selection by the league’s coaches following the past two seasons.

Next. Cardinals should take a pass rusher early. dark

Round 7(199)- Budda Baker represented the Cards in this past Sunday’s Pro Bowl, but the safety slot next to him is wide open. Georgia’s J.R. Reed was a consensus All-American and was voted First-Team All-SEC for his play in ’19. The 6’1, 194 pounder tallied 120 tackles, three picks and nine passes defensed during the past two years for the Bulldogs.
