This Saturday, some Arizona Cardinals could have a memorable evening at the annual NFL Honors event

As we near the end of the 2019 NFL season and league year with the Super Bowl this Sunday in Miami, the league will be celebrating its players at the annual NFL Honors gala in Miami.  Three Arizona Cardinals players in particular could be a winner of an award.

First, up for Offensive Rookie of the Year is Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.  Murray finished the 2019 season with 3,722-yards passing with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Of those 12 interceptions, 7 of them came in the last month of play in December.  You could tell he was pressing in a couple of games to make things happen, most notably in the game at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 8th in which they fell behind and tried to stay with them.

.The other was against the Rams in the regular season finale against the Los Angeles Rams.  He threw 5 interceptions in those 2 games alone.  Just 7 interceptions in the other 14 games, which is impressive given the offensive line situation and not having the most consistent receiving core in the league.

Also up for an award is Chandler Jones.  He could end up winning Defensive Player of the Year. He will have some competition though, mainly from cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the New England Patriots.

Jones finished the season with 19 sacks, second in the NFL.  He came up just half a sack shy of winning the NFL sack title for the second time in the last 3 years.

The final possibility is with the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.  Three finalists will be named before the event.  The Cardinals nominee is running back David Johnson.

Regardless of what you think of Johnson’s on the field performance, he is still a class act off of the field.  He and his wife Meghan run the Mission 31 Foundation.  They provide support and resources to seriously ill children and families.

The event will air at 6:00 p.m. Arizona time on FOX.  Steve Harvey will be the host of the pre-recorded ceremony.
