Arizona Cardinals should knock on door of edge rushers

The Arizona Cardinals are just a little over a week until free agency starts

The new NFL league year is almost upon us.  That means the start of free agency for the NFL and the Arizona Cardinals.

We discussed the other day about spending wisely in free agency.  That doesn’t mean don’t knock on the doors of guys that are perceived to be expensive.

Hey if they don’t want to open the door, then the Cardinals just move on to the next guy.  One position we really didn’t bring up the other day was edge rusher.

The Cardinals need to compliment Chandler Jones.  Guys like Markus Golden or Kyle Van Noy seem like guys the Cardinals could use.  Go ahead though and just say no to Shaq Barrett.

Barrett has a nice sack total last season but there are two issues there.  First, the sack performance aside, the intangibles he’d bring would not come close to what Jones already offers.

Secondly, he may not even end up available anyway.  There is talk the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may use the franchise tag on him.  We’ll know very soon as teams have until Thursday at 1 pm Arizona time to place their tags.

Robert Quinn could be a viable solution as well.  The issue there is his best year is now seven years removed.

Bud Dupree could get his chance to finally land in Arizona.  Many thought he would be drafted by the Cardinals in 2015.  He had a great season in 2019 but what will he command with the one really good season?

Next. Defensive lineman may be Cardinals top pick. dark

This should end up being the top or near the top on the list of priorities for the Cardinals in the free agency market.  Getting a good edge rusher in both free agency and the draft would be optimal.  We won’t hold our breath though on the Cardinals making the best move for near future.
