The Arizona Cardinals made a lot of moves in week one of new league year but still hadn’t resolved backup quarterback until Sunday

As we saw in 2019, the Arizona Cardinals have found their franchise quarterback.  Kyler Murray played in all 16 games but in one of them had to be replaced in the second half.

That was a December game in Seattle.  The Seahawks were still working on playoff positioning.  Murray helped lead the Cardinals to a nice lead but he got hurt and had to leave the game early in the third quarter.

Backup Brett Hundley came in relief and did a phenomenal job finishing off the victory for the Cardinals biggest win all season.  They got him back on another one-year contract on Sunday.

Murray is young and athletic, in great shape.  He got himself ready to play the following week in Los Angeles last December. Still, if the Cardinals find themselves in playoff contention and Murray goes down again, they need a more than competent backup, something Hundley provides.

In re-signing Hundley, they can be taken out of the running for other backup quarterback services. There is a report the Cardinals were interested in XFL star P.J. Walker.  However the same report, from Pro Football Talk, indicated they were one of several teams that may be interested.

No we don’t have to worry about it.  Hundley at first didn’t seem like the best fit last year but he did just fine.  While his numbers weren’t much to write home about it was what wasn’t on the stat sheet that made all the difference in the world.

dark. Next. Grading Cardinals moves

Hundley was the right choice.  There are other competent backups out there right now but not just anyone can come in here and be relief in Kingsbury’s offense.
