The Arizona Cardinals front office executives are apparently more than comfortable with their current group of pass-catchers

From the beginning of this year’s NFL Draft until the end, the Arizona Cardinals were oozing confidence. There were no trades, very little hesitation, and every selection appeared to be made with a strong degree of self-assuredness. One position that many thought would be addressed, however, was completely ignored by the Cards front office.

All six picks that were allotted to Arizona are now in the record books, and not one was spent on a wide receiver. In fact, four of general manager Steve Keim’s choices were used on the defensive side of the ball. Did the Cardinals make a mistake by not adding a pass-catcher to the mix?

The answer to that question is a resounding no. Sure, CeeDee Lamb, Henry Ruggs III or Jerry Jeudy would’ve made what already looks like a tremendous Cards offense even better. But even without one of those talented performers, the organization’s current wideout group may be the deepest part of the Arizona roster.

Things changed dramatically at that spot for the Cardinals back on March 16th. The trade that brought four-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins to the desert put the franchise’s receiver room on a higher plateau. That one addition transformed what was an average set of Cards pass-catchers into one of the league’s best groups.

Besides Hopkins, Arizona also has the great Larry Fitzgerald and former second-round selection Christian Kirk in the locker room. There’s also an assortment of youngsters who may be ready to emerge. It’s a list that includes Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler, KeeSean Johnson and Trent Sherfield.

Keim and the Cardinals are receiving excellent grades for what they accomplished during the draft. Based on the projections for each of the prospects they acquired, the praise seems to be well-deserved. The fact that the Cards refrained from adding a wide receiver during the three-day event should not change any of those opinions.
