Trent Sherfield

Spot Number 6 is a difficult choice and will be for the Cardinals front office as well. Now, there needs to be a disclaimer here: in 2019 the Arizona Cardinals kept 8 wide receivers on their roster. So this does not preclude in any way more than 6 wide receivers ending up on the final 53-man squad. But anyway, to the pick!

Trent Sherfield. This is not a glamorous pick by any stretch, but it is a safe and practical one.

In 2019, Sherfield only put up 80 yards with no scores. Damiere Byrd, who is now with the New England Patriots, played more of the WR3 role than Sherfield did last year but he was still a solid member of this squad getting 257 offensive snaps.

Sherfield was great on special teams, accumulating 202 snaps, and gained a solid reputation as a reliable gunner who was capable of making big plays at big moments.

It is never a bad idea to keep players on your team that provide excellent worth on special teams but are also capable of stepping in during game situations. Sherfield provides both of those services and thus will be a benefit to the Cardinals should they decide to keep him on the roster.

A Bonus 7th Wide Receiver could also come into play. With Kingsbury’s offensive mindset and a more talented offense in 2020, it would not be surprising if the Arizona Cardinals do keep more than six wide receivers on their roster. There is a good chance they retain second-year KeeSean Johnson enlarging the wide receiver room to seven.
