Arizona Cardinals cornerback Robert Alford reportedly has suffered another injury

Maybe the man just isn’t destined to take the field for the Arizona Cardinals?  Cornerback Robert Alford reportedly has suffered a pectoral injury according to arizonasports.com.

The injury is going to be another season-ender for the cornerback the Cardinals signed in the offseason prior to the 2019 regular season. Alford missed the 2019 season with a broken leg.  Now this.

We should have kept quiet about the lack on injury piece posted earlier in the day.  It was too good to be true.

Once again the Cardinals depth will be tested at Cornerback, a position the Cardinals have consistently struggled at.  Outside of Alford, they certainly still have Patrick Peterson on the other side.

That leaves Chris Jones, Byron Murphy Jr., and Kevin Peterson as the top candidates to take his assumed starting spot. Its a tune we were singing last August as well.

The injury could also leave the Cardinals looking for a replacement outside of camp at this point. Murphy would be the favorite to take his spot but he’s entering just his second season and still growing as a player.

The CFL just folded for 2020, maybe there’s someone there the Cardinals could look at?  Either way, it’s man down and time for a replacement on the current camp roster.

As for Alford, you have to wonder what’s next?  Now with two consecutive season-ending injuries in training camp, will he attempt a third season with a team he hasn’t played a down for since coming over from the Atlanta Falcons?

He is 31 but will turn 32 on November 1st.  He did sign a three-year contract so he is likely to give it another try next summer but age is not on his side.  This was to be his eighth season in the NFL.

Next. Cardinals receivers near NFC top. dark

It’s back to old mantra, next man up it would seem.  It’s just a shame it had to be Alford once again.  So many were looking forward to seeing him in the defensive backfield with Patrick Peterson.
