The Arizona Cardinals have a formidable backfield as long as they stay healthy in 2020

When the Jacksonville Jaguars released running back Leonard Fournette on Monday, of course it didn’t take long for Twitter to start asking for the Arizona Cardinals to sign him.  It’s so predictable whenever a name player gets released.

It wasn’t going to take long for any base to start talking Fournette. Sure, he’s a good running back.  There was a mixture of problems in Jacksonville that lead to his fate. He was expensive and a headache to deal with.

That was no more evidenced than the fact Fournette filed a grievance against the Jags on Tuesday to recoup money that was voided.  Even though Fournette had his issues on and off the field, there is no question he has talent.

Let’s be serious for a moment here though.  Not everyone who gets cut in this league needs to be considered by the Cardinals.  They really don’t, honest.

The Cardinals have Kenyan Drake.  They have Chase Edmonds.  They could have something in Eno Benjamin in the near future.

Yes, Drake was in a walking boot a couple of weeks ago.  The Cardinals claim it was only precautionary for soreness.  Until it costs Drake a regular season game, let’s run with that.

Drake proved last season he can be the Cardinals workhorse back.  No, he won’t get 100-yards every week.  They don’t necessarily need that from him.  A 1,000-yard season would certainly be nice but this offense is meant to have a balance between ground and air.

Also, the Cardinals really don’t have that kind of money to spend. For some reason though, Fournette’s name still found his name attached to Arizona by some as a possible landing spot.

He will land somewhere.  There is no doubt.  Someone will take a chance, despite not a single team was willing to trade even a draft pick for him.  That says a lot.

The Cardinals should just let him pass on by.  If the Cardinals current backs stay healthy, there is absolutely no reason to bring anyone else in at the position.
