The Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers list their inactives ahead of Sunday’s season opener

So, Arizona Cardinals running back Eno Benjamin makes the 53-man roster, runnig back D.J. Foster does not.  Foster gets signed off practice squad due to Keesean Johnson going on the COVID list.

Now Foster gets to play and Benjamin is inactive for Sunday’s opener against the San Francisco 49ers.  Makes sense.

Bnejamin is one of seven inactive players for the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.  Also inactive is quarterback Brett Hundley. That means Chris Streveler will be the backup to starter Kyler Murray.

Also inactive for the Cardinals is offensive linemen Josh Jones and Josh MIles.  Safety Deionte Thompson is also a surprise scratch for Sunday’s game.

The decisions on Foster and Streveler over Benjamin and Hundley are quite interesting however.  Cardinals coach Kliff KIngsbury must have seen something he liked in matchups, otherwise its a head scratcher.

As for the 49ers, Cardinals fans who are also Arizona State fans will also be disappointed with this list.  The 49ers have deactivated rookie receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

Aiyuk is expected to be very productive for the 49ers this season.  However he has been nursing an injury all week.

Also on the 49ers inactive list is cofrnerback Jason Verrett.  That does not come as a surprise given his injury status this week as well.

The other inactives for the 49ers include linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and offensive linemen Kentavius Street and Ben Garland.  Quarterback C.J. Bethard is also inactive.

As of now, the game looks to still be on.  The air quality has been holding around 170.  The NFL will not allow teams to practice or play when that number reaches 200 or higher.

These inactives may come down to matchups each week.  The Cardinals do not have a lot of injuries right now, though that could change as well after Sunday  Let’s certainly hope everyone stays healthy after this one.
