There are reports that the Arizona Cardinals front office may be on the verge of trading for veteran cornerback Desmond King

Over the past couple of weeks, the Arizona Cardinals have been the subject of various trade rumors. Players like J.J. Watt, Stephon Gilmore, Zach Ertz, Kevin Zeitler and Quinnen Williams have all been mentioned as possibilities for the surging Cardinals. Now, just hours before the trade deadline, another name can be added to that list.

It’s being reported that Arizona may have interest in Desmond King, a fourth-year cornerback who currently plays for the Los Angeles Chargers. More fuel was added to that fire when it was announced that the 5’10, 200 pounder will not suit up for Sunday’s matchup with the Denver Broncos. By all accounts, King is healthy, so the fact that he’s a healthy scratch could possibly mean that Los Angeles may be preparing to deal the 25-year old to an interested club.

There’s been talk that the prospective suitor could quite possibly be Cards general manager Steve Keim. Heading into their bye week at 5-2, head coach Kliff Kingsbury‘s squad is brimming with confidence. The Cardinals believe that they’re once again playoff contenders, so it would not be a surprise to see Keim making a mid-season attempt to improve the roster.

King was a fifth-round draft selection of the Chargers back in 2017. The talented corner was drafted out of the University of Iowa, where he played for four campaigns under head coach Kirk Ferentz. King was voted First-Team All-American and was also named the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year following his junior season in 2015.

In 2018, King secured First-Team All-Pro honors after racking up 62 tackles, three interceptions,10 passes defensed and a pick-six in 16 appearances (eight starts) for Los Angeles. This year, the Detroit native has totaled 24 tackles and a quarterback sack in the six contests (three starts) he has participated in. For his career, King has registered 213 tackles, four picks, 17 pass breakups and four total touchdowns (two on defense, two on punt returns) in 53 games (23 starts) for the Chargers.

Next. Could Cardinals make defensive end splash?. dark

We’ll all know by Tuesday if any of the scuttlebutt that we’ve been hearing over the past few weeks is true. After all of the gossip, it would be surprising to hear that Arizona just stood pat with what they have. One thing’s for certain, King would be a fine addition to a Cardinals secondary that is playing very well in 2020.
