Stopping Jalen Hurts

Many acted like Hurts put on a clinic, but if you look at his passing numbers, they’re beyond modest. His yards per passing attempt entered the Blaine Gabbert zone at just 5.7, and he completed just 56.6 percent of his passes.

Not good numbers but let’s cut the kid a break. He was a rookie quarterback starting his first NFL game.

And as with the new wave of dual-threat quarterbacks entering the league, Hurts will hurt defenses with his legs if they’re not careful. And he torched the Saints, racking 106 yards on 18 carries, good for 5.89 yards per carry.

The Saints had no answer for Hurts and let’s be honest, he pulled off his best impression of Kyler Murray with his legs. And while the Cardinals pass rush put on a clinic of their own in week fourteen, they need to realize they’re not chasing Colt McCoy and Daniel Jones this week.

Expect Hurts to make plays with his legs and do so often and expect the Cardinals to have difficulty in containing him. But if they can stop Hurts before he hurts them, it will provide a huge boost to the defensive backfield, knowing the rookie is still raw in the passing game.
