Arizona Cardinals may have to go backup plan at quarterback
Brett Hundley learned from one of the best
Arizona native and Chandler High alumnus Hundley got drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 5th round, 147th overall. He got to sit behind Aaron Rodgers for just more than a season, when Rodgers broke his collarbone on a hit by Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr. Hundley didn’t do so well, going 3-6 in nine games and Green Bay missed the playoffs that year. In 2019, he joined the club as the #2 quarterback on the roster. It was one of the few years this decades that the Packers did not make a playoff appearance.
Hundley’s only memorable game appearance was in week 16 of that 2019 season, where he stepped in for Murray who was injured on the road against the rival Seattle Seahawks. Hundley’s awesome scramble and effective passes helped lead the team to an upset victory which ironically got the Packers a first round-bye as the #2 seed. As a Cardinals fan who was there at the game and in the pacific northwest for the first time, it was fun celebrating with the handful of Cardinals fans in my section.
Serving as the #3 quarterback all year, we don’t know how confident Kliff is in starting him. I’d classify Hundley as a “jack of all trades, master of none” as he is solid across the board, but doesn’t excel in any specific category. At least he does have a more significant chunk of NFL experience as opposed to Streveler, which in such an immense situation may prove beneficial.
