Free agent receivers for the Arizona Cardinals to consider
By Jim Koch
Another offseason has arrived, and the Arizona Cardinals are once again waiting on a decision from from a legendary player. Larry Fitzgerald, the club’s future Hall of Fame wide receiver, is contemplating retirement yet again. While they wait, the Cards front office should certainly be doing their homework on some possible replacements for their 11-time Pro Bowler.
Luckily for Arizona, there are some very talented pass-catchers who are scheduled to hit the free agent market next month. A contingent of wideouts who could find themselves on the team’s radar if Fitzgerald does indeed decide to hang up his cleats.
A.J. Green has spent the last 10 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals organization. A couple of subpar campaigns from the 32-year old could have the Bengals looking to move on from their seven-time Pro Bowler. If he can remain healthy, Green could serve as an extremely good compliment to Cardinals superstar DeAndre Hopkins for the next couple of years.
Another solid pass-catching option for the Cards would be Allen Robinson of the Chicago Bears. The former second-round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars as flown mostly under the radar during his NFL career, but his talent is undeniable. In seven pro campaigns, Robinson has caught 457 passes for 5,999 yards and 39 touchdowns.
T.Y. Hilton, like Green with Cincinnati, is coming off of a pair of substandard seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. Nevertheless, the former third-round selection has made quite a career for himself since he entered the league back in 2012. Hilton has tallied 608 receptions, 9,360 receiving yards and 50 scores in 133 appearances (112 starts) for the Colts.
One more potential free agent who Arizona could consider is Sammy Watkins of the Kansas City Chiefs. The fourth-overall choice of the 2014 draft played his first three campaigns with the Buffalo Bills, and also spent one year (2017) with the Los Angeles Rams. Watkins has battled the injury bug throughout the years, but his 4,665 receiving yards and 33 career touchdowns are proof that he can play.
