Round Five
Chase Edmonds has one year left on his deal, while former starting back Kenyan Drake is entering free agency. Drake burst on the scene in 2019 after a mid-season trade from the Dolphins. He performed well with little experience in this offense. Fast-forward to 2020, his efficiency and effectiveness declined.
Insert Kylin Hill into this Air-Raid offense with Murray alongside him in the backfield. Hill offers a powerful downhill runner with elusive side-steps, jump cuts, and loose hips. He finishes runs with a low pad-level and physicality to frustrate defenders for four quarters.
Hill has untapped potential in regards to his role as a receiving back. If given the opportunity, he is capable of making plays in space while matched-up with linebackers.
Pairing Hill with Edmonds and Kyler, Kingsbury can dial-up creative packages from Shotgun or Pistol sets. Outside of Murray, the Cardinals rushing attack was mediocre and inconsistent at best this past season. This must change if they are going to challenge anyone in the loaded NFC for a playoff spot.
Seventh Round
Another swing at a receiver with an otherworldly catch radius? Don’t mind if I do! Hakeem Butler was given the boot and transitioned into a tight end after being signed by the Eagles. Listed at six foot six and 215 pounds, T.J. Vasher provides Kyler with another window extending wideout. Vasher specializes in high-pointing and dominating contested catch opportunities with his 84-inch wingspan.
The former Red Raider has fluid movements for a receiver of his stature. Also, incredible body control, hand/eye coordination, and fantastic ball skills. Vasher attacks the ball in the air with an aggressive and possessive mindset. Possibly, the best receiver ball skills in this draft class.
Kyler Murray is a talented thrower of the football, especially downfield. He has one receiver that he trusts to throw 50-50 passes to, DeAndre Hopkins. Vasher’s height, length, and athleticism could assist in earning Murray’s trust in camp. With proper development and work ethic, Vasher could prove to be a draft steal in the later rounds for the Cardinals brass.
