The month of March has been a fantastic one for the Arizona Cardinals front office. After big-splash acquisitions like J.J. Watt, Rodney Hudson and A.J. Green, the club must now turn to some more-affordable free agent options. The following are a group of veteran players who could fill in some remaining roster holes for the Cards, quite possibly at reasonable rates.

While Kyler Murray has certainly impressed as Arizona’s starting quarterback, his lack of ideal size makes him susceptible to injury. That being said, management can do better than former CFL star Chris Streveler as the backup signal-caller. Possible options include Alex Smith, Blaine Gabbert and Blake Bortles.

The departure of Patrick Peterson has left the Cardinals with a glaring hole at the cornerback spot. While there’s a strong possibility that the organization will address the position during the NFL Draft’s first day, an experienced free agent is also a necessity. Possible options include Bashaud Breeland, Dre Kirkpatrick and Josh Norman.

Arizona also lost a key member of the offense when running back Kenyan Drake signed a two-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. Chase Edmonds is a fine replacement, but may not have the size (5’9, 205) to carry a full load. Possible options include Duke Johnson, Tevin Coleman and Wayne Gallman.

Safety Jalen Thompson has been a good partner for Budda Baker when healthy, but the 22-year old has struggled to remain on the playing field. The Cards supplemental draft selection in 2019 missed 11 games last season due to an ankle injury, so a bit of insurance at the spot wouldn’t hurt. Possible options include Daniel Sorensen, Karl Joseph and Tavon Wilson.

Many believed that the Cardinals would retain Dan Arnold, but the 26-year old signed a two-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. At the moment, Maxx Williams and Ian Bunting are the only two tight ends on the team’s roster. Possible options include Darren Fells, Tyler Eifert and Jesse James.
