Patrick Peterson ‘can’t wait’ to face the Cardinals next season
By Adam Patrick
Former Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson will take on his old team in Week 2 of the 2021 season as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
Patrick Peterson suiting up for a team other than the Arizona Cardinals in his NFL career is not something many thought would ever happen.
But after repping the Cardinals for 10 seasons, Peterson has taken his talents to a new franchise. The former Arizona All-Pro cornerback is attempting to get his career back on track this year as a member of the Minnesota Vikings.
Cardinals fans won’t have to wait very long to see Peterson in person next season since the Vikings will be heading to Arizona in Week 2.
Patrick Peterson is looking forward to facing the Arizona Cardinals
Following the release of the 2021 regular-season schedule earlier this month, Peterson was asked on his “All Things Covered” podcast to comment on some of the Vikings games that jumped out to him.
The former Arizona corner danced around his answer for a little bit, but then shared his feelings on the matchup that everyone knows he has his eyes on in Week 2.
"“The one I circled is definitely Week 2. That’s not even close. I’m going to be juiced up going into that week, but once that game gets going, I’m going to be cool, calm, and collected because that’s when I’m at my best.I’m looking forward to that Week 2 matchup. I can’t wait to show up and do what I do in their face.”"
Peterson facing his former team is definitely going to be one of the most intriguing matchups from the early part of the Cardinals’ 2021 schedule.
There are also a bunch of questions that will be answered that afternoon when the veteran corner takes the field in Arizona with a different helmet on.
How will the Cardinals fans receive him? Who will Minnesota have Peterson cover during the matchup? Will things get a little heated at times between the former Arizona cornerback and his old teammates? Will Peterson take his game to a higher level just because the contest is against his former team?
Aside from his return to Arizona, this Week 2 matchup between the Cardinals and Vikings is one that could end up having an impact on the NFC playoff picture at the end of the 2021 season. So whoever comes out of this battle with a win could hold a tiebreaker when it comes time to figure out which teams will be playing in the 2021 postseason and which ones won’t.
