5 Arizona Cardinals players that will not be back in 2022
By Adam Patrick
Who are some of the current members of the Arizona Cardinals that likely won’t be on the team’s roster in 2022?
In their third year with Kliff Kingsbury leading the way as the team’s head coach, the Arizona Cardinals are off to a great start this season with wins in seven of their first eight games.
Several new arrivals have played a significant role in Arizona’s success this year including running back James Conner, wide receiver A.J. Green, and defensive lineman J.J. Watt.
Despite their success with the Cardinals this season, this could potentially be the only year in the desert for guys like Conner and Green, who are both scheduled to become free agents in 2022.
Arizona is currently estimated to have around $26 million in cap space next year, but that doesn’t take into account the potential contract extensions for quarterback Kyler Murray and cornerback Byron Murphy. With a good chunk of money possibly needed to extend these two players, the Cardinals might have to part with some of the guys that have helped them play at such a high level so far this season.
Looking ahead to the 2022 campaign, who are some of the current members of Arizona’s roster that likely won’t return to the team after the 2021 season?
Player No. 1
Andy Isabella – WR
Back in 2019, the Cardinals decided to use a second-round draft pick on former UMass wide receiver Andy Isabella. During his pre-draft testing, Isabella displayed some blazing fast speed that clearly caught the eye of Arizona’s front office.
However, Isabella has never really been able to find a fit in the Cardinals’ offense since his arrival. In 30 career appearances with Arizona, the young receiver has only accumulated 30 catches for 413 yards and three touchdowns. This year, he hasn’t even been on the field for an offensive snap.
The Cardinals added a new speedy receiver in Rondale Moore this season and he seems like the real deal. So Arizona doesn’t really have a need for Isabella on their roster anymore.
