Antonio Brown to Arizona? Cardinals suggested as possible landing spot
By Adam Patrick
Pro Football Focus recently suggested the Arizona Cardinals as a possible landing spot for Antonio Brown if the receiver is let go by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Following his team’s win over the New York Jets last Sunday, current Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and former Arizona Cardinals, head coach Bruce Arians declared that wide receiver Antonio Brown was no longer a member of the Bucs.
Arians’ comments, of course, came after Brown decided to abandon his Tampa teammates by running shirtless into the locker room in the middle of their matchup with the Jets.
Despite his actions in New York, the All-Pro still hasn’t been let go by the Bucs as the team is reportedly still trying to figure out if they should release him, suspend him, or place him on injured reserve.
Arizona Cardinals listed as a possible destination for Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown
If Tampa ultimately does end up showing Brown the door in the near future, Pro Football Focus recently listed a trio of teams from around the NFL that could potentially sign the veteran receiver. The Cardinals were one of the three teams included in the list.
Why would Arizona consider signing someone that just made a fool of themselves out on the field? Well, PFF suggests the injury to DeAndre Hopkins could be something that causes the Cardinals to take a chance on Brown as they head into the playoffs.
Especially since Hopkins is expected to only have a chance to return to the field for Arizona if they make a deep run in the playoffs this season.
When he’s been on the field, Brown has been productive during the 2021 campaign, averaging around six catches and 80 yards per game to go with a total of four trips to the end zone. But these numbers don’t seem anywhere close to being worth the risk that would come with signing the current Tampa receiver.
Brown could help improve the Cardinals’ passing attack as they head into the playoffs. However, there’s also the chance of him creating a bunch of unnecessary drama like he did this past weekend in New York, and that should be enough to convince Arizona to stay away from the veteran pass-catcher.
