5 Free agents who would make the Cardinals better right away

Brandon Scherff of the Washington Commanders is an outstanding right guard who’s scheduled to test the free-agent waters this spring. The fifth-overall pick of the 2015 draft has been hit with the franchise tag during the past two offseasons, and there’s no rule that says that it can’t happen again.
If, for some reason, he’s not franchised by Washington this time around, the Cards should be extremely interested in signing the five-time Pro Bowler. “Big Red” struggled mightily at right guard last fall, with the likes of Max Garcia and Josh Jones manning the spot.
Arizona’s blocking unit started strong in 2021 but faded significantly down the stretch. Adding a talent like Scherff to the offensive line would be an outstanding way to get assistant coach Sean Kugler’s crew back on track.
