A recent mock draft from NFL Media’s Peter Schrager has the Arizona Cardinals using their first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on former Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson.

When it comes to picking wide receivers in the NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals have struggled mightily during the last few years. Which is why it was a bit of a surprise to see a recent mock draft having the Cardinals using their first-round selection in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft on former Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson.

In his first mock draft of the 2022 offseason, NFL Media’s Peter Schrager believes Arizona will attempt to see if Dotson can help erase some of the poor memories produced by receiving prospects drafted by the team in the recent past.

Dotson is coming off a very impressive final season at Penn State in which he accumulated 91 catches for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns. In his last three years at the school, the 2022 receiving prospect scored a total of 26 touchdowns.

What could former Penn State WR Jahan Dotson add to the Arizona Cardinals?

If the Cardinals actually do end up using their first-round selection on Dotson this year, he has the potential to quickly fill the void left by the departure of Christian Kirk this offseason.

The former Penn State receiver even has the potential to be a better offensive weapon for Arizona than Kirk ever was.

Dotson is a little on the smaller side (5-foot-11, 178 pounds), but he makes up for his size with his tremendous play-making abilities. He’s a very solid route-runner with tremendous speed and quickness (4.43-seconds in the 40-yard dash).

Despite his potential, Arizona might shy away from drafting someone like Dotson since they just selected a receiver with a similar skill-set in Rondale Moore during the 2021 NFL Draft.

At the same time, the Cardinals might also view Dotson as an explosive offensive weapon that they just can’t afford to pass on if he’s still on the board when they’re on the clock.
